I recently watched a TED talk about finding work you love to do. If you’re like me, you’ve struggled with answering the “what do you want to be when you grow up?” question that gets asked at all of the family gatherings and in schools across the globe.
The logic behind the question is sound, but there’s so many possibilities about what we could do that I believe we get overwhelmed thinking about it. You could literally be and do ANYTHING.
Scott Dinsmore, in the TED talk How To Find Work You Love, poses basically the same question but from a different angle:
What is the work you can’t not do?”
By asking this question, we can evaluate our lives and see what already interests us; we can see what we gravitate towards. Combine those interests with your unique skills and abilities, and you are sure to find or create work that you truly love.
Ponder on this question today — the world needs more individuals who absolutely love the work they do!
Great post. I feel fortunate to love my job! I have worked in the same agency for 20 years. It’s a difficult job but it doesn’t feel like work!

Thank you so much! And that is wonderful to hear that you love what you do. That is definitely a goal I am striving for! 🙂

I struggle as I don’t know the answer to either of those questions. I think I was left to be so free in my choosing that I never really excelled in any one thing. I did a blog recently about not having a vocation in life and if you don’t know what you want then technically you should be able to find happiness being anything as long as you set goals like working hours and minimum salary but the older I get, the more I wish I could go back and get my Mum to push me a little harder towards the things that SHE saw natural ability in. So difficult not knowing what to focus on!

I agree, sometimes it can be very difficult. I have struggled with this for quite awhile now. This blog is my attempt at exploring photography and writing! But yes, there are so many possibilities that it’s overwhelming for those of us who have lots of interests! I wish you luck and clarity in finding your vocation!

For the past two years i engaged myself in something that I don’t really like, not because I wanted to but because that option was the only available one then. But now I’ve redefine my life and am now doing what I love.

Reblogged this on ERYTHROX and commented:
If you’re not happy with what you’re doing please change. You don’t have all the time, this life is too short to be trap up in a job that’s not inline with your inclination.

God has a will and desire. Until we know what that is life is a vanity, Rev. 4:11….you have created all things, and because of Your will they were and were created.
